Great family entertainment, and its free! All teams in the Cape Cod Baseball League depend on merchandise sales, fund raising, fifty-fifty raffles at the games, and your donations.
Please show your support for your favorite team.
Another note about the support these players get is that
they are put up by host families throughout Cape Cod for
the entire season. Pretty darn cool, you could end up with
a future super star sitting at your dinner table.
While watching the Yarmouth-Dennis Red-Sox claim victory
over the Brewster Whitecaps this question kept bugging me.
The million dollar question. Is baseball the Cape's
favorite pastime or is Cape Baseball a Cape Cod tradition?
I'm feeling it's favoring tradition but you decide.
The local support these guys get is just awesome, with
many an entire family out for an evening, lawn chairs
or blankets in hand ready to kick back and enjoy the
ballgame.
This piece below was written so well I had to e-mail the author to see if we could put it on our website. This pretty much explains the feeling you come away with after attending a
Cape Cod Baseball League game. Words alone don't do justice
to the emotions that take over.
Our thanks to Ian Clark for the following paragraphs.
I grew up with the Cape Cod Baseball League. While I lived in New Jersey, I spent every summer in Cape Cod with my grandparents and never missed an Orleans Cardinals game. I even went to the baseball camps. At one game, I won the raffle for a ball autographed by the entire team...what a great memory. To me, summer and Cape League Baseball are inseparable.
The greatest part about the Cape League is, to me, the community aspect. I know of no other league (of this caliber) which puts so many teams within such close geographic proximity to one another. The result is a community which rallies for their local team, and is really indirectly rooting for the success of not just their team, but their town.
The other wonderful result is for the Cape as a whole. Teams represent what is great about the local communities, but the League as a whole represents what is great about the Cape, and the result is a stronger area.
While I always rooted for the Cardinals, I never once found myself rooting against the other team. Even after a loss, I don't think I ever left Eldredge Park in a bad mood because while the Cardinals may have lost - both Orleans and the Cape came out winning because of the game.
